Two kayakers on Denman had spotted this young Seal that they were able to get quite close to without the Seal trying to get away from them. This is often a sign that something is wrong. So they spoke with Marielle at Island Wildlife Natural Care Center & she convinced them to capture the young Seal to get them in to her care. The two kayakkers captured the Seal without difficulty & put her into the hatch of their kayak! They then paddled to Gravelly Bay, which is on the Hornby side of Denman, where the ferry docks. Marielle hired Jim Funk*s water taxi on Hornby to go pick up the Seal from the kayakers & deliver her to Deep Bay where a volunteer would meet him with a small carrier & get the Seal closer to the ferry to Saltspring Island. Marielle needed me to bring HEART*s large carrier over to Denman & help with the transfer. These screencaps are from the video i took of the young Seal being transferred at Deep Bay from the large carrier into the smaller one.
