Two years ago, Prof. Eero Tarasti founded the Semiotics of Cultural Heritage project, inviting scholars from all over the world to join him in his effort to investigate the importance and significance of cultural heritage in the contemporary world. In our most recent meeting in Sofia, we have contemplated the richness of the cultural legacy of different cultures and civilizations that have so many times clashed throughout history. A point that becomes more and more clear is that Human Sciences have today a strong role in the promotion of mutual understanding, and how art has always, with the ethereal power of beauty, transcended the artificial boundaries and the circumstantial rivalries that insist on separating us.
