Typhoon #Hagupit/Ruby Wednesday Evening Update #Cebu #Visayas #mustread #mustshare (Just consider this as an additional source of information aside from our own weather bureau PAGASA.) Typhoon Hagupit is now moving over Yap just outside of the Philippine sea this evening bringing Tropical storm strength winds to the island. The worst of the storm should pass Yap during the late evening hours with peak winds gusting as high as 120kph possibly as the eye wall of Hagupit passes over the island with about 9,000 residents. At this time Typhoon Warnings are in effect for Yap and Palau by the Guam NWS. After the storm passes by Yap and Palau on Thursday it will then set eyes on the eastern Philipppines. The exact time and location of landfall is still up for debate but the official WMO agency JMA is forecasting landfall in Leyte Saturday morning with winds around 150 Gusting up to 200kph at that time. Karen from K’s weather put it best as well. “Multiple questions on Will —-area—- be affected. The answer is, the typhoon is expected to hit as a category 2 (3 as it comes close to landfall) and is 1000 km in diameter. So depending where it makes entry most of the Visayas will experience typhoon conditions. Parts of Mindanao and Luzon will experience typhoon or tropical storm conditions. So yes, many areas will be affected if this makes it to land and even if it doesn’t make it to land, this will be close enough to stir up typhoon like conditions.” In short, now is the time to start making preparations especially if you live in Visayas and northern Mindanao and southern Luzon in areas from Cebu East. Not only will the winds and the surge be an issue with this storm but it will be moving very slow and thus heavy rainfall could trigger flooding and landslides.
