Typhoon RUBY (HAGUPIT), has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility. RUBY is now located less than 400 km East of Borongan, Eastern Samar. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) currently projects Ruby will make landfall on Saturday evening over the Eastern Samar – Northern Samar area and it will be associated with strong winds, storm surge of 4 to 5 metres, and intense rainfall within the 700 km diameter of the typhoon. RUBY and the Northeast Monsoon will bring rough to very rough sea conditions over the seaboards of Northern Luzon, eastern seaboard of Central and Southern Luzon, seaboards of Visayas and over northern and eastern seaboards of Mindanao. We recommend Canadians residing in or travelling to the potentially affected areas monitor local news and weather reports, follow the advice of local authorities, and contact their travel agent or tour operator to determine whether the situation will disrupt their travel arrangements.
