Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) has brought an honest view of the plight - TopicsExpress

Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) has brought an honest view of the plight of Filipinos during tragedies to the world. Now the world has seen how defective and systematically incompetent the Philippine government is. In the wake of Yolanda (Haiyan), international news organizations have called our country a rising economic power but as the days unfold have stopped referring to it as such. Because they have seen how inefficient the government officials are, both local and national. Because they have had a real glimpse of what the situation (or life) really is here. Because they have witnessed the extent of the greed of Filipino government officials. I probably have no right to criticize because I have not done nor given much compared to what is really needed. But this slow action, or almost no action, from the government is making me lose hope in our country. It makes me sad that other nations are more concerned about the effects and victims of tragedy, and are acting faster than our own government. As a Filipino, I feel overwhelmed at the number of nations and how fast they acted when this tragedy befell us. I have never known nor imagined love and concern for human life at this magnitude. It would have been nice to get that feeling from our government but... I love my country and all, but I understand why more and more Filipinos would rather live and raise their children abroad. This is one of those reasons. Filipinos are not unfamiliar to natural disasters, but our government never seem to be ready at any point when it strikes. I hope Id live long enough to see change, or maybe raise one to make the change.
