Typography in the field of tension between design and contemporary art... In dialogue with the artistic practice of designers Åbäke (UK), Radim Pesko (NL), Olivier Ibsen (B) and artists Lieven De Boeck (B), Navid Nuur (NL) en Colin Frazer (USA), you will get to work with silkscreen, risograph and laser cutter, but also with intaglio, relief printing, typo and lithography. Starting from these manual and digital techniques you will develop experimental applications for the typographic image.Technical experience with the printing techniques is not necessary. You will get the necessary introduction at the start of the master class. The master class is in Dutch and English. PROGRAMME November 24th welcome November 25th: Introduction of the techniques available at Frans Masereel Centrum November 26th to December 4th Maki Suzuki, Olivier Ibsen, Lieven De Boeck, Navid Nuur and Colin Frazer will introduce their typographic practices in lectures and presentations. Afterwards, they will coach you with individual talks and workshops. WHO artists and graphic designers (max. age 35) ADMISSION There is a maximum of 12 participants. You send a pdf portfolio with 10 images of recent work, a short cv and a short description of your relationship with the typographic image to [email protected] before October 29th 2014. The artistic coaches will make the final selection. The full schedule will be sent to you after confirmation. Cost 500 Euro This includes accomodation, lunch and use of workshop materials. You will share a little house (kitchen, living room and bathroom) with one other participant. You dispose of a private bedroom.
