U.S. 2013 PEANUT PLANTING : The peanut acreage this year is estimated in almost 1.10 million acres (445,160 hectares), a 33% reduction compared to the 2012 acreage, when planting reached 662,880 hectares. Low international prices and huge carryovers from the previous crop were the main factors that caused this significant drop. All the producing states reported similar shrinkage in peanut plantings. This season, farmers looked for a better income with corn, soybeans and cotton. In Georgia, the major peanut producer, the acreage was reported being 31% lower than last year.
