Kia ora and welcome to the MOUNTAIN BIKE ROTORUA weekly update for the week finishing Sunday December 14th 2014 ---CURRENT FOREST CONDITIONS--- Last weekend saw fantastic trail conditions across the forest. Average temperatures have definitely risen. Some light precipitation over the past 24 hours has seen trail conditions settling down into our favourite tacky hero dirt. Warm temperatures are due to abide well into the weekend. ---OUTLOOK FOR THE WEEKEND--- Saturday and Sunday are due to be mainly fine, light winds and highs of 20 degrees. Saturday sees the 2W Giant Gravity Enduro race criss-crossing the forest, so keep an eye and ear out for the super fast masses on the race line marked trails. Not to worry if you aren’t racing, this still leaves approx 70 trails not being used in this race. Get to the forest and make the most of it team & keep an eye on our the Mountain Bike Rotorua facebook page for major updates closer to the time. ---TRAIL RECOMMENDATIONS--- The native sections of the forest are definitely worth exploring if you are up for the challenge. Unique flora, a different soil type and typically technical root sections make a point of difference. TIHI O TAWA (grade 4) is one of the best examples of this and here’s a video of our mates from FLOW Magazine and local guru Gaz from NZO Design getting amongst it https://youtube/watch?v=gLATHbFj9Yo ---UPCOMING EVENTS--- CRANKWORX IS COMING & E.W.S. Sunday 4th January 2015 Cross County vs Downhill | Lycra vs Flannel | Mate vs Mate | Hard Tail vs Full sus | 29ner vs 27.5 Let’s face it we all love to go down a hill rather than up, the Banshee Super D Sunday is the perfect mix of downhill and cross country trails packaged together into one fun 6 – 7km, 12-25 minute event. After a shuttle trip to the top of the hill you will start as an individual weaving your way down through a mixture of native & pine trees with fast flowing single track, berms, tree roots, sweeping switch backs and the odd little hill climb. This is a great event from the weekend warrior through the pro rider. There isn’t a whole lot of climbing so you don’t have to be super fit and any bike will do! Any bike will do for a Super D race, but this category of racing is where the all-mountain/trail bikes with 4, 5, and 6 inches of travel can really excel. If you’re thinking about getting into gravity enduro this is a great place to start. Oh by the way, we are helping Lance with his “lance kranks it for kidneys” fundraiser, a big fiver from each rider goes in to the kitty! https://givealittle.co.nz/fundraiser/lancekranksitforkidneys 24HOURS OF NDURO ...
