U16 Div1 Co. League Final: Ballydonoghue (3-8) Spa Killarney (2-10) Our U16’s out done themselves again when they overcame a very strong Spa Killarney side to capture the county league final in Austin Stack’s Park on Wednesday evening. We were slow to get going and appeared a little over anxious in the first half. Uncharacteristically several of our passes were going astray and our timing just that split second off. Both sides had goal chances in the first half but neither failed to capitalise on them. Not playing at our best we still hung in there and were only behind by a single point after 30mins. H/T Spa (0-4) B/don (0-3). We started well in the second half and were a point in front after 7mins. Spa then kicked 4points on the trot to make it 8pts to 6pts. The breakthrough came in the final quarter with one of the best goals your are likely to see. The kickout from John Scully collected by Brian Ó Seanacháin, the burst through the middle the layoff to Daragh Sheehy, the pop pass to Brian Mason, the return to Sheehy the pass ahead to Jason Foley the shot the GOAL!. What a score enough to lift any team and so it did as we hit Spa for two more goals shortly afterwards, a cheeky sidestep from Daragh Sheehy after a bone shaker of a tackle by Kevin O’Donnell turned over the ball and a converted penalty after Jack Behan was tripped from behind as he bore down on goal. Leading now by 7pts with as many mins left we were looking good. But two late goals (one peno) left us praying for the final whistle with 4mins of injury time played. When the referee finally blew for full time a sigh of relief could be heard around Austin Stack park from the large Ballydonoghue contingent, as we hung on by the narrowest of margins. Team: John Scully, Kieran O Connell, Jack O Connor, Joseph Lynch, Dónal Doyle, Jason Foley (1-0), Conor Horgan (capt), Brian Ó Seanacháin, Micheál Foley (0-1), Kevin O Donnell (0-1), Daragh Sheehy (2-3), Brian Mason, William Kissane, Cian Mahony, Jack Foley (0-3) Subs: Jack Behan, Daniel Power, Stephen Mason, Liam Kissane, Michael Gogarty, Michael Dee, Kieran Lynch, Shane Kennelly.
