UGANDA: Five people - a mix of men and women - have been jailed in Uganda for carrying out Female Genital Mutilation, or FGM. The physically and emotionally traumatising ritual - also referred to as cutting or female circumcision - sees the genitalia of women cut with a razor or a blade, and can occur with or without anaesthetic. Uganda made FGM a crime back in 2010, and also provides for punishment against those who discriminate against women who havent undergone the process, which can often occur amongst communities.
