UK travellers choose guidebooks over blogsTodays News 06 Wed, Nov 2013 The majority of British travellers still use traditional guidebooks when making decisions about travel, according to research released at the World Travel Market this week.According to the World Travel Market 2013 Industry Report, 59% of holidaymakers used a hard copy guidebook on their summer holiday this year. Of these, 41% purchased the holiday guidebook, while 18% borrowed a book from a friend or relative. The report found that TripAdvisor was the key resource of holiday information for 27% of the UK public, while 14% chose guidebooks and 3% chose blogs. Newspaper travel sections and specialist magazines were each selected by 5% of travellers. Traditionalists will take heart that the well-thumbed guide book, shared among friends, is still a big part of how people research holidays,” said Simon Press, Reed Travel Exhibitions, Senior Director, World Travel Market. “Peer reviews remain the most dominant source for information, but people are as multi-channel in their research as they are in their shopping This research shows that the death of the guidebook has been greatly exaggerated,” said Press.
