UKIP COMMENT ON CRUMLIN ROAD PARADE – SATURDAY 27 JULY 2013 07/28/2013 Brian Higginson, Culture Spokesperson for the UK Independence Party (UKIP) in Northern Ireland has praised all those involved in this (Saturday) afternoon’s Orange Parade in North Belfast. Brian says, “Credit is due to all those who took part in this (Saturday) afternoon’s parade and peaceful demonstration on the Crumlin Road. The behaviour of the Orange brethren, the bandsmen and their supporters is to be commended. Despite ongoing provocation by dissident and mainstream Irish Republican elements, the Orangemen and their supporters maintained their dignity. The local PSNI commanders are to be commended too for their decision to dress officers in uniform, as opposed to riot gear. “The threat of violence stems not from the Orange Order, but from within Irish Republicanism. The stance of the Orangemen this afternoon was in stark contrast to that of the Irish Republican thugs who unleashed a wave of terror, upon the Suffolk community yesterday (Friday) evening. “It is clear the Parades Commission must review their decision to prohibit the parade along this stretch of the busy Crumlin Road, ahead of next week’s planned parade. In a truly free society, it is unacceptable that those who wish to parade peacefully home are prohibited from doing so. The Parades Commission has established a dangerous and unhelpful precedent, whereby they kowtow to threats of violence from Irish Republicans. Such a precedent is inconsistent with the shared future and peaceful future, which so many within our community long for.”
