UM WIFI ISSUE By: Goh Zhao Yang & Ahmad Herman Rodzi I (Goh Zhao Yang) as a student representative for FSCIT and Student Welfare department has been visited PTM(Pusat Teknikal Maklumat) to send in my proposal and report about the WIFI survey in UM with Ahmad Herman Rodzi student representative from Faculty of Economics and Administration. I planned to meet Dr David, however I was asked to meet with the campus network department Information Technology Officer regarding the issue. Not much updates I can get from the department for now as Mr Asmawan who is fully responsible for the implementation of the campus network was not there. These are the updates we could make regarding the visit: i) Upgrading of the wifi is in process (Changes in wiring but not access points) ii) The upgrading of the wifi will be done in January (As this may affect the network in the examination week of the students because it needs configurations, I strongly insist they pause the upgrades and proceed it when most of the students finish with their exams) Therefore, I will contact responsible person Mr Asmawan regarding this issue. iii) They are not aware that the changes in upgrading process has slowdown the wifi in some areas such as kk12 and kk3. iv) P2P application is used by some students, therefore slow connection in UM. This is the summary of my visit.
