UN perspective on Cooperatives : Cooperatives are the reminder to the international community that it is possible to pursue both economic viability and social responsibility as value-based enterprises routed in the communities having a unique and invaluable presence in todays world in helping to reducing poverty and generate employment. - Ban Ki Moon, UN Secretary General After the great consideration, the United Nations has come to realize that Cooperatives have the potential to help solve some of the major problems of the world. It can also be an active partner in realizing the UN sponsored MDGs. The UN has this recognized the existence of social and economic potentials of Cooperative Economy. The UN recognized the potential of cooperatives, and hence proclaimed UN Cooperative Days. UN International Year of Cooperatives-2012, thus encouraging cooperatives all over the world to count their achievements, plan for the future, promote professionalization, and be partner in social and economic development efforts. This year too UN has declared as International Family Farming Year 2014.
