UNV Assignment Title: Reception Coordinator/Ref. 519 Type of Assignment: National UN Volunteer Duration: Three months Location, Country: UNHCR, Cairo, Egypt Expected Starting Date: 01 September 2013 Description of tasks: Under the direct supervision of the Protection Officer and the overall supervision of the Senior Protection Officer the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: 1. Ensuring effective communication mechanisms and procedures are in place to support the work of staff dedicated to the reception area 2. Following up with relevant units and/or focal points any issue raised at level of reception area (e.g. unattended persons of concern, instances of disruptive behavior) 3. Supporting the office in coordinating the daily management of interpreters 4. Assisting in identifying and interviewing refugees applying for interpreter jobs 5. Maintaining and update attendance records 6. Responsible for daily management of internal scheduling 7. Creating and maintain a system for booking of interviewing rooms 8. Providing recommendations to the protection Officer for the authorization of requests of annual leaves of interpreters, ensuring adequate cover for leave and sickness 9. Ensuring a smooth distribution of tokens at reception and monitoring access to premises 10. Providing weekly statistics on persons of concern approaching the reception area 11. Any other related task as required Results/Expected Output: • system for booking interview rooms devised and well maintained • monthly administrative documents prepared for payment of interpreters • Updated and well maintained internal scheduler Provision of weekly statistics • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for development during the assignment, such as activities participated in and capacities developed. Qualifications/Requirements: • Relevant University degree • Minimum 1 year of previous relevant job experience; • Excellent knowledge of English and Arabic (writing, reading and speaking) • Knowledge of another UN language is an asset. • Communication skills • Proficient computer skills – in particular Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) • Ability to work individually and as part of a team. • Sound interpersonal and communication skills, especially with people from different cultural backgrounds. • Initiative, sound judgment and dedication to the United Nations principles. • At least 22 years of age. • Nationality: Egyptian.
