UP lost the opening game against UE. Or did we? We have been winless in 3 seasons, now 3 seasons and a game. But for those of us who were there - the minority of Maroons who cheered amidst a sea of Red; those of us who saw our boys dive for every loose ball, get pummeled by behemoths inside the paint - we witnessed a change. We saw a spark, a glimmer of hope that differentiates Season 77 from the seasons before it. The boob tube showed the highlights of our “defeat,” not how bravely we fought through it. The latter is an intangible that could only be felt where the action is, where our boys lost a battle but gained the grit to go on with the war. We are a community once again. And a community never abandons its own. That is the difference. Nobody said the journey up would be so easy. Nobody said it would happen overnight. But it is a journey we are all committed to take. And so we will neither falter nor cower. Join us, fellow UP alumni, when our boys suit up for war once more. See for yourselves what television does not, cannot, show you.
