UPDATE #14: Ah, this is the life, breakfast in my hotel bed. Finally after 3+ weeks Ive gotten the breakfast I desired---two fried eggs, fried tomatoes, a single hot-dog-sausage, three pieces of toast actually toasted (with honey to apply), watermelon, bananas, coffee and orange juice. There are blessings in the midst of pain. Slept reasonably well last night, though some pain around the wound. No signs of infection or increasing discomfort. Still not leaving my room. My students are on an all day field trip visiting sites of Methodism and Judson locations, so I have the whole day to myself. Have finished my notes through Friday, the last day of class and my last full day in Myanmar, before my precarious trek back through Bangkok to Manila on Saturday. Part of my notes on Wesley highlight his five key verses for a financial life strategy: 1. I Tim 5:8: Take care of your family 2. I Tim 6:8: Be content with what you have 3. Rom 12:17: Always deal honestly even with those who are unscrupulous 4. Rom 13:8: Avoid debt 5. Gal 6:10: Look for opportunities to be a blessing to others It has taken me many years to get close to this. And I remind myself that Wesley did not have a family under him to maintain, and did not live in as consumption-oriented society as we face. But Im closer to these goals than I have ever been in my life, but realize how precarious life is that it can tilt us into debt so easily.
