UPDATE (8/1): Another week has flown by, and day by day, April seems to be getting stronger. Several times in physical therapy this week she exhibited control of her core by pulling herself forward or holding herself up. Only for seconds at a time, but it was progress. In speech they continue to work on her voice and facial expressions. Once she got out a very audible ahhh! It was purposeful as she was trying to mimic us making the sound with her and practice getting her mouth to open. It takes immense concentration and a lot of hard work, and she hasnt gotten it out again, but has tried many times. It will come.... The finger splints that occupational therapy made for her are very painful to wear, but are helping with the tone. After removing them this morning, she was able to keep her fingers open for more than 30 minutes. Her left leg (the broken one) was x-rayed this week and the doctor said it looked excellent! It is now weight-bearing and her therapists can begin serial casting on it to help correct the tone. They also have machines they can begin to use that will aid in the processing of learning to walk again. As for Avery, he has been seen walking from place to place, but is still choosing to scoot more often than not! Thanks for continuing to pray for April. Her therapists and nurses are certainly rooting for her....we are thankful for all of you who are as well.
