UPDATE: It is with deep humility and abiding affection that I thank each and every one of you for your friendship and support. I learned this evening that I have not won the election. I congratulate the Hon. James Hubert for running a fine campaign and for winning this seat on the Supreme Court. Similar to the famous Dewey defeats Truman episode, it was erroneously reported, on Wednesday morning, on three television networks and in many local Newspapers, that I had won the election by a margin of 51% to 49%. Tonight we determined that this happened because the tally from Putnam County which was actually 14 thousand votes was mistakenly calculated/transcribed as 41 thousand, giving me 27 thousand votes that I did not actually have. Of course this has been a difficult few days, both for me and for Judge Hubert. In any event, all parties are satisfied that the results are now correct and that Judge Hubert has been elected. I am so very proud of my Committee. In two short months, we were able to gather over 200 thousand votes. In fact, we won 3 of the 5 counties losing only in Rockland and Westchester. Incredibly, we received more votes in Orange and Dutchess counties than other candidates who literally spent millions of dollars on their campaigns. In Westchester, we received 43% of the vote while Mr. Astorino himself only received 41%. These outcomes are astounding when the minimum amount of time and resources we had at our disposal is considered! We can be very proud indeed of our efforts here. From the very bottom of my heart, I thank all of you. I have now lost two close elections. I will be back. I owe it to all of you and to myself to give this one more shot at some point in time. I ask you all to keep me in your hearts and minds as I will all of you, as I regroup, like Marines do, and prepare to return and finish the mission! I am truly blessed by the kindness and confidence of my many friends and colleagues. With a tear in my eye and love in my heart, I appreciate everything that all have you have done! Semper Fi Monty.
