UPDATE on The Proposed Spring Bear Hunt March 16, 2014 The Ontario Liberal govt. has not yet made an announcement as to whether they will move forward with a spring bear hunt this spring. Almost 100,000 people said NO to the Return of the Spring Bear Hunt in Ontario. Here is the break down as we know it: · Care2 online petition generated over 77,000 signatures from inside and outside Ontario. · Fur-Bearer Defenders online petition generated over 11,000 signatures from inside and outside Ontario. · Wildlife Ontario sign-on letter generated over 3800 letters. · Over 300 letters were directly addressed to Deb Matthews, MPP for London North Centre, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. Deb Matthews is vulnerable to losing her seat in a general election. She holds the last Liberal seat in London, Ontario – considered a bellwether in a general election. · Bear With Us, a black bear rehabilitation and sanctuary located in Central Ontario has an active formal petition that will be introduced into the legislature.
