UPDATE: the Xmas Miracle car fund is growing. We are up to about $800 if all the pledges come in. Today we found out that Brea is basically homeless. She pings from one place to another. Tonight she had no where to go. I literally gave her the coat off my back when we picked her up to drive her to a hotel, she didnt have one. Many thanks to Susan Gladin for answering my one question and as always, having the right answer - St. Matthews in Hillsborough is picking up the tab tonight. Another amazing person has bought her three more nights there, which should give us time to figure out what to do next. Her main concern is that she does not want to take her son out of his headstart program in Graham. Tara Cobb Mebane found some shelter and bus line info and maybe that will pan out. Tomorrow I will check out Orange County Headstart Programs. It is obvious that she is a remarkable young woman - she is well educated, articulate and interesting to talk to. Tomorrow morning another kind person is picking her up at 6 am to take her son to daycare and her to work. Suntrust Bank in Hillsborough is rallying their people to help out and has been simply amazing in their support for her - Renee is incredible! I have not yet been told what their financial contribution will be. I want to thank everyone who has joined in, in whatever capacity you have. I really think we can help this brave woman from falling through the cracks if we keep working on it. Please consider making a donation. I know its not tax deductible and there is a good chance you will never meet her - but she is a real live human being who needs our help. Besides money we need: -anyone who is willing to drive her from the Microtel in Hillsborough to Graham to drop her son off and back to Hillsborough where she works - her shift begins at 7:30 am. -her son needs new shoes. I am guessing he wears a 1 but I will find out. He seems to have plenty of warm clothes otherwise, unlike his Mom. -I think some personal care items would be gratefully accepted, along with snacks for her son and herself. Things like granola bars, nuts, - things that travel well - would be appreciated. Food is definitely a need here. Ok, thats all for tonight. Again, thanks to everyone who has helped out.
