UPDATES FROM THE #MH370 PRESS CONFERENCE AT KLIA17 March 2014, 5:30PM By the Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein * During the last 24 hours, the Prime Minister has spoken to the Australian PM and the Premier of China. There are two groups - countries in the search corridors and the countries we are requesting assistance from. * We have asked for regular updates: daily reports from the countries in the search corridors. * 26 countries are now involved in the search. He says that in the last 48 hours the operation has focused on “diplomatic, technical and logistical” issues. Still no sign of the plane. * Australia & Indonesia have agreed to lead SAR operations in their respective regions as demarcated by ICAO * The map of the Northern and Southern corridors as per image * Royal Malaysian Air Force and Navy including 2 Malaysian ships have been deployed to the corridors. The offshore patrol vessels: KD Kelantan & KD Selangor. This deployment also includes a Super Lynx helicopter, which can operate from either ship. * PM of Australia confirmed Australia will send additional 2 P3 Orions & 1 C130 Hercules. A US P8 Poseidon aircraft will be travelling to Perth today to help with the search. * Malaysia has been cooperating with the FBI, Interpol and others since day 1. * The police have started investigation on the crew and passengers of those on board MH370 * The police have taken away the simulator from Captain Zaharie’s house with the assistance of his family members and has been assembled at the police headquarters for further investigation * With the support of our international partners, this new phase of SAR is under way. * The countries involved are not concerned about the cost and the main objective is to find the aircraft * MAS has provided a centre for the family members of those in KL and also Beijing * MAS CEO: The psycho-metric is a standard procedure for pilot recruitment. Moving forward we will strengthen/ tighten the entry requirement. * MAS CEO: Code Tango, heightened security code activated. MAS is in a heightened security environment right now. * MAS CEO: We have no evidence from any telcos of any numbers trying to establish contact – we are still tracking. Passenger manifest has been passed to the police. Police is checking the background of the passengers. * MAS CEO: Whether the co-pilots voice was distressed in the final transmission alright, goodnight, it is part of the investigation. * MAS CEO: The investigation assumed that the last message sent by the flight came from the co-pilot Fariq Abdul Hamid. Pressed on the message he would not say whether there was any sign of stress in the voice. More analysis of the recording is taking place, the authorities said. * MAS CEO: Last ACARS transmission was 01:07. It was supposed to transmit again 30mins after. * DCA Chief: It was 01:19 where we got the last message from the cockpit to the air traffic control. * DS Hishammuddin: The quicker we find the aircraft and get to the black box the faster we can have all questions answered. #PrayForMH370
