URGENT - TIME SENSITIVE - GMO INTERESTS TRYING TO STOP WOOLEY CONFIRMATION PLEASE ACT NOW ASAP ASAP MAHALO! See you Tuesday morning at the Capitol, please write/call/email/show up and support this confirmation we can not allow these pro-GMO tools to punish Jessica for standing up for the people on pesticide, GMO, local food, farming and labeling issues! Babes Against Biotech 8 minutes ago URGENT ENVIRONMENTAL SUPPORT NEEDED HAWAII. All hands on deck to support Hawaii Rep. Jessica Wooley for Director of Office of Environmental Quality Control (OEQC) STAT! Rep. Wooley is House Ag Chair and the only reason we had any GMO labeling hearings in Ag Committees the last two years and got to work on bills for local food security, sustainability and local farmers. Unfortunately, her counterpart, the Senate Ag Chair (Nishihara) is a very pro-chemical company, pro-GMO legislator who tried multiple times in the last two years to strip County rights to protect citizens life, health, property and preservation as well as ability to regulate pesticide abuse or open air GMO experimentation by the chem companies. He is now attempting to stop her confirmation to OEQC. We can NOT only go to our Reps when we need them, we must also go and support them when they need us, this is CRITICAL and Jessica Wooley needs our support NOW. Its easy, knock it out and let us know please! 1) Email all Senators at [email protected] after reading this entire action alert and ask them to please support Wooley for Director of OEQC. It can be simple with a clear subject and say something like, Aloha Senators, I am writing to urgently request that you please support Representative Jessica Wooleys appointment to the Director position for the Office of Environmental Quality Control. Representative Wooley has been an advocate for sustainability and innovative leader in local agriculture and environmental policy in Hawaii for many years. She is extremely well qualified with a Bachelor’s in Economics, Masters in Agricultural and Resource Economics, a Juris Doctor and a former Deputy Attorney General. She has been an exemplary and diplomatic legislator while in office and has given over seventeen years of significant and positive contributions to our society in her career. I am confident that this appointment reflects the sustainability goals of the majority of Hawaiis residents and that Jessica Wooley will be an excellent, highly competent Director of OEQC that Hawaii can be proud of. Please support her nomination unanimously. Mahalo, (Name, City, Contact Info) 2) Call your Senator and ask them to support Wooley. Look up your Senator at capitol.hawaii.gov. 3) Share this post ASAP and BE THERE at the Capitol for the Senate vote at approximately 10AM on Tuesday 4/29 - exact time TBD so please be on standby and stay tuned. PLEASE COME DOWN TO THE CAPITOL if you are able to be on Oahu to show your support for Jess. We will meet outside of the Senate gallery on the ground floor. Oahu residents, please understand this is OUR kuleana the most since there are thousands of people on neighbor islands who WISH they could come down to the Capitol and cannot afford to drop everything and fly to Oahu, so please make this a priority to bring people and represent all your loved ones on neighbor islands as well, mahalo. Important message re: Wooley Confirmation from The Sierra Club: The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported today that Jessica Wooleys appointment as Director to the Office of Environmental Quality Control (OEQC) is in trouble because of opposition led by Sen. Clarence Nishihara. Rep. Wooley and Sen. Nishihara have clashed frequently on the issue of GMOs, which is perhaps why Sen. Nishihara is now fighting Rep. Wooleys appointment. Could you please add your voice in support of Rep. Wooley? The OEQC has been without a confirmed director for over a year. Without a director, the environment doesnt have the watchdog it needs to make sure government is following its own laws. Senator Nishihara is putting his own interests above the interests of the environment, public, and businesses who all want a director to make sure our environmental laws are followed. The Senate is charged with ensuring Wooley is qualified to serve, which she clearly is. She has a background in environmental law, having served as a deputy attorney general for several years, and has experience working with environmental agencies. If Rep. Wooley is rejected, it could discourage future leaders from being outspoken in advocating their views. Its could diminish willingness to step out on controversial issues and ensure various points of view are represented. The Star-Advertiser article notes that Nishara and Wooley just completed often icy conference committee negotiations on agricultural bills, and some are hoping that any harsh feelings might subside. Please encourage your Senator to take the high road, and to vote for Rep. Wooleys appointment. Mahalo for all you do for the environment! Todays Star-Advertiser Article, Opposition imperils nomination of Wooley, in which Clarence is quoted saying, I know there will be people who will say, Well, Nishihara is out to get her because hes a pawn of biotech. UH YEAH CLARENCE. When there is a debate between pro-GMO and pro-regulation sides, you come and represent for all the chemical companies. They throw your fundraisers and you do their bidding in the legislature, you have taken over $14k from chemical/GMO companies and their lobbyists and block all local food, local farmer, GMO labeling, pesticide disclosure bills so um, YEAH. YOU SAID IT! Read Derrick DePledge article in SA about Nishihara trying to stop Wooleys appointment: staradvertiser/s?action=login&f=y&id=256880591&id=
