Man poses as an animal control officer to steal dogs A man in his early twenties posed as an animal control officer in Hardwick, MA on November 6, 2013 in order to steal a familys pet. He was wearing a black ball cap and driving an older gray or silver, windowless van. He is approximately 59”, 160 lbs and sporting a reddish brown mustache. Hardwick police Cpl. Kevin M. Landine said the incident occurred on Greenwich Road, according to the Telegram and Gazette. The suspect approached a home and told the homeowner “he was responding to a nuisance dog complaint.” The man left when the homeowner called the police. The animal control officer in Hardwick is actually a woman, Tina Lindsey. Lindsey assures there are procedures and protocols in place, and typically the owner of a dog is notified in advance. She urges individuals to keep a close eye on their pet. In years past there have been incidents of people picking up dogs to use for bait dogs or to sell, Lindsey said.
