US grantmakers are increasingly likely to fund multi-year grants - as well as commit money towards grant recipients core operating costs - according to the latest Grantmakers for Effective Organisations (GEO) National Field Survey. The survey found: • A jump in the percentage of grants dollars awarded to fund groups general operating support. The figure, which was static at 20% in 2008 and 2011, has jumped to 25% in 2014. • A dramatic rise in the frequency with which funders offer multiyear support. The figure, which dropped from 60% in 2008 to 28% in 2011 has rebounded to 58% in 2014. • More than a quarter of funders increased their support for multiyear grants (up to 31%), general operating support (27%) and capacity building (27%).
