USA FORECAST : Sun Jan 11 2015 - 00Z Tue Jan 13 2015 ...Freezing rain likely from the Ark-La-Tex into the northern Mid-Atlantic and southern New England... ...Temperatures will moderate across the Northeast while the next round of bitter cold dips into the north-central U.S.... A storm system currently moving into Texas is expected to move east-northeastward into early Monday morning and will impact many locations across the eastern half of the nation. While the storm system is not expected to be overly strong, it will meet with very cold air resulting in a wintry mix of precipitation from the Ark-La-Tex into the Ohio Valley, northern Mid-Atlantic and southern New England. A glaze of freezing rain is forecast to affect locations from Arkansas and eastern Missouri tonight into Sunday, before spreading across the northern Ohio Valley and possibly impacting cities from Washington to New York by Monday morning. As temperatures rise during the event, a changeover to cold rain is expected but locations just north of the freezing rain should stay cold enough to see a light to locally moderate snowfall. Another blast of cold air is already on its way southward, with the leading edge currently stretching westward across the central and northern Plains. With little moisture to work with, this front will be mostly dry but will drop high temperatures 20 degrees from todays values across the central High Plains for Monday. The renewed surge of bitterly cold air will eventually make its way eastward with the coldest temperatures reaching New England by Tuesday with low temperatures likely below zero for northern New York into northern New England. Across the western U.S., a series of weak upper level impulses will pass through the Intermountain West with scattered rain and higher elevation snow showers through Monday. Snowfall amounts should stay generally light, with the heaviest snowfall totals expected in the northern Rockies of western Montana where up to a foot could fall through the remainder of the weekend.
