#UW24 Update This afternoon UW volunteers and staff visited a local beach. We had been told the beach was safe, but it was not. ALL UW VOLUNTEER PARTICIPANTS ARE SAFE. However a number of youth stepped on sea urchins. They are currently being evaluated by staff on our medical team. Some staff individuals were swept out to sea by a strong riptide. Other staff members tried to rescue them and put themselves into danger. The volunteers were rescued by boat. All volunteers and staff members have been accounted for. One staff member was taken to the hospital. All other injuries are being evaluated by our medical team. Updates to follow.
