Ugh. I am actually exhausted from my back-and-forth on another posting regarding this topic with essentially the same group of rude, name-calling folk as the ones that made me post this topic initially. Some character named Raleigh has felt the need to weigh in on everything that I say, with the justification that he knows womens rights better than anyone. He used passive-aggression, outright rudeness, twisting my words and wild assumptions to push his agenda---when his real agenda is to impress the viewers of the thread. He had an extremely obnoxious, passive-aggressive woman backing him up, too. She approves of bullying, rudeness and name-calling as long as its HER side….but God forbid you dont agree with everything she says, and suddenly you fall into any number of neo-lingo categories that both she and this Raleigh character threw around with smugness and arrogance: mansplaining, “PUA”, “Cisgender” and many others. When I attempted to ask people politely to simply PM me so that we could avoid highjacking the thread with our personal attacks on one another, I was informed that I deserved to be humiliated publically, and that no woman would want to discuss the issues with me because I was “hostile” (and this from a man). I was feeling quite hostile---with good reason---when I realized how hypocritical and systematically degrading these people were. I actually said, “I’m extending the olive branch here…”, and I was told that no, I was “extending a whip with a tree to tie them to for torture.” Amazing. I believe in women’s rights. I believe in rights for minorities, gays, transgenders, the disenfranchised and pretty much everyone who draws breath, unless they want to deny the rights of others to exist and be happy. But the behavior I have witnessed recently sickens and disturbs me. If the way out of inequality is screaming in people’s faces that it’s “not about you!” (something that these two used as a catch-phrase to try and silence differing points of view), then I want no part in it, because this is about ALL of us.
