Ugh, the tough stuff of a broken democratic society. Moving beyond discussions of death penalty debates (really, dont want it), the focus here, for me, is the broken criminal justice system, whereby from arrest, and the abusive powers given to cops in many (not all of course) cases, to jury selection, and capital flow to prosecution compared to defense, we are executing too many innocent people! What is also not mentioned here, besides the criminal justice system operating as the new Jim Crow, especially devastating to African Americans and Hispanics, the modern death penalty also kills a disproportionately high number of non whites, perhaps marking this, in my view, as state sanctioned lynching in the modern era. Again, the issue is NOT about the death penalty per se here (so again, leave that alone), the issue is the system is killing too many innocents and high numbers of non whites. Ahh, time to storm the Bastille again! m.huffpost/us/entry/5228854
