Ultimately humans look for partners of the opposite gender with the subconcious idea of reproduction in mind. We look for qualities in them we find suitable for raising children as well as genes we feel would be good to pass down. When a women dates a man who can make a living, not only is she dating him with the concious thought of comfortability for both her and possible children, but most times a working man has intelligence and will power. These traits are admirable and are good to pass down. Same thing goes for physical attraction. You want your children to be attractive etc. What you personally find to be admirable is based primarily on what you were raised with. Unfortunatley this leads a lot of people to be attracted to traits that are unhealthy and destructive as well. This is just a theory, and not my own, but I find it to be true in a lot of ways.
