Under 19s vs Bootham School Basketball With a strong team, the QE boys were really looking for a win to raise confidence levels, as the players involved in QE York Knights have had a tough season so far. However it was hoped that experience within the National League would have a positive impact on their performance in the National Schools competition and it certainly did. Bootham scored early on in the game taking the lead 6 nil. However QE, slow to start, came back instantly within the 3rd minute going on an 8 point scoring run to Bootham’s 2 points. After several missed free throws from both sides, QE continued their field goal scoring run, getting a further 11 points to Bootham’s 6 points by the end of the first quarter. QE led at the end of the first 19-14. Into the second quarter there were a few player changes with George Chen coming on and Eimantas Televicius taking to the floor. George alone dominated this quarter, scoring 10 points out of QE’s total of 29 points made. Bootham however, did not let the lead get away from them, scoring a further 12 points to their total. As QE eased ahead at the half 48-26, the boys felt comfortable that they could maintain their lead. George Chen started the third quarter scoring off for QE, followed closely by Domantas Bakutis, Eimantas Televicius and Bocheng Yang. However Bootham had a particularly good 3rd quarter too, with scores from Cho, Tang, Pang and Martin. QE lead into the fourth quarter 65-35. The focus was to finish the game with intensity and not let this slip. With recent performances being lost in the 4th quarter, the focus was to maintain the pressure on the ball and continue to push the ball ahead and this is what QE did. Well done to all the boys involved. A great victory tonight against a team that we have had mixed results against with some wins and some losses in previous years.
