Castle, eager to make amends for their earlier 2-0 defeat, were dominant throughout and the margin of victory should have been greater. Jake Till shone up front with his strength and willingness to close down. He also showed great awareness to link up with wingers Aiden Mellor and Harley Cole. It was Mellor however who proved to be the difference in this game. He constantly terrorised the full backs with his surging runs down the wing and it was thanks to three almost identical corners which put Castle in control. With 8 minutes played Mellor whipped in an in swinging corner which flicked off the keepers fingertips and into the net for 1-0. He produced a captain’s performance, allowing Stone no time on the ball and stopping any attack Stone managed to mount. He also showed create composure on the ball picking out passes through to Till and Mellor. Till was pulled down in the box for a Castle penalty. Mellor fired straight at the keeper, the only disappointment of his day. Mellor and Birt both went close with long range efforts and a minute from time Till produced the goal of the game to make it four. Till didn’t give up on a long ball and disposed the Stone defender. He found himself on the edge of the box with his back to goal and a defender behind him. He then superbly rolled the defender and fired across the keeper and into the top corner to send Castle home with a 4-1 victory and the points. Report by Harry Everist
