Under sunny skies, temperatures currently in the low 80s should rise 4 or 5 degrees more by late afternoon across the four counties. Radar out of Blacksburg VA shows a pretty strong thunderstorm near Christiansburg VA moving east-southeastward, well away from us and no threat. A few other thunderstorms could develop this afternoon but like this one, they should stay north of the back-door front, which, at this time, is still in southwestern VA from about Wytheville to Martinsville to around Burlington and Raleigh NC. I dont expect that it will get very close to us today and maybe not tomorrow either. While I wouldnt entirely rule out a stray thunderstorm, especially over Caldwell or eastern Catawba Counties, the chances for any rain are looking less and less favorable today, as well as Tuesday evening. So expect mainly sunny weather both days and very warm temperatures with more of a breeze Tuesday afternoon.--Steve.
