Understanding the kavana of Yom Kippur is something that can help - TopicsExpress

Understanding the kavana of Yom Kippur is something that can help mothers staying at home to be able to feel more connected. The two big fast days of the year are often equated with similar emotion and energy. But they are in fact, opposites. Yom Kippur, contrary to popular belief, is not a sad day. Nor is it a day of dread or of mourning. Yom Kippur is a day of love. A day of connection. Of renewal. Of purity. There are only two days a year that we dont wash netilat yadaim in the morning: Yom Kippur and Tishaa bAv. But the reasons for both are totally opposite. On Tishaa bAv there is so much tumaa, so much impurity, that no amount of water can help remove it. On Yom Kippur there is so much purity that we dont even need it! Also, Tishaa bAv (the ninth day of Av) is a day of devision, of separation. Nine is the highest digit that still does not allow you to create another unit. They still cannot become a group. Nine separate individuals. Yom Kippur is the tenth day of Tishrei. Ten is when all the individuals become a new, connected unit. Ten symbolizes unity. Yom kippur is a gift. A day of renewal. Of introspection. Of sifting. We sift out the negative in our lives to make room for the positive. Toxic people, toxic situations, anger, pettiness...sift em all out! There is no room for positive and negative together. Yom Kippur is like taking out the trash and walking back in to a fresh, clean home. Yom kippur is not about anyone else. Its about me. Me and God. Its about admitting our failures and not being afraid of them. Because the key to success is FAILURE. Yom Kippur is about forgiving others, even if they havent apologized. Because, an apology is about my ego. Forgiveness is about a healthy relationship with myself. And its about a commitment to view the positive in other people as rapidly and as fluently as we view it in ourselves. I wish you all a Gmar Chasima Tova and a day in which you feel love, renewal, purity, connection, positivity, and forgiveness. I bless you that you sould be able to internalize these emotions and carry them with you for the rest of the year.
