Unfortunately, smuggling has assumed the role of the parallel economy in the Province of Balocistan. It has become an invincible trade which is being run by the big barons so called Sardars, public representatives and the influentials of the Province for the last many decades. Its quantum and profit thereof particularly from drug trafficking, gun running, contraband goods and lately from cars/vehicles has increased manifold which is literally crippling the country’s economy. Despite all the stringent measures taken by various agencies deputed on anti smuggling duties, the smuggling could not be stopped. It is mainly due to the long borders and its porous nature that provides a wide choice and flexibility to the smugglers to smuggle their goods. However, there is no check when these goods arrive into the markets of big cities. Besides looking after the International Borders with Afghanistan & Iran and maint of law and order in the province, Frontier Corps Balochistan has also been assigned the responsibilities of anti smuggling duties. Government of Pakistan has delegated the power of Customs to Frontier Corps officials in 1974 under Custom Act 1969 wherein Frontier Corps is empowered to seize contraband items within 60 KM of the international border. However, for narcotics, arms & ammunition there is no limit and can be seized anywhere in the province.
