Unions provide training for all of their members to prevent these kind of accidents. There is not shortage of our highly skilled union work force. There is however no shortage of cheap contractors that will not hire the highest and best trained union members to get the job done right and on time!! Bill union strong! the Six hurt in hotel scaffold collapse EMMETT TWP. — Six construction workers were hurt Friday morning when a scaffold collapsed at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel under construction in Emmett Township. The Emmett Township Department of Public Safety responded to the call at the four-story hotel, on Harper Village Drive off Beckley Road east of M-66, at 11:37 a.m. Friday. “When we got here they were inside the structure, but it’s our belief that they fell outside,” Emmett Public Safety Director Mike Olson said at the scene. On the street-facing side of the building, Emmett Township and Life-Care personnel lifted the six injured people out of the building on stretchers. “We had a couple that had broken extremities and dislocations, some open injuries,” Olson said. “It was rather chaotic initially because of the number of injuries.” Olson stressed that the investigation was in the early stages, and the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration had been contacted. Inside the building, he said, four of the injured were in one location and two in another, in the lobby area. The workers were at the third-story level when they fell, although an exact cause is still being investigated. On the west side of the building, the scaffolding could be seen on its side, covered in plastic sheeting being whipped by strong winds.
