Untold Stories of the First World War presented Europeana.eu c/o the Koninklijke Bibliotheek National Library of the Netherlands PO Box 90407 2509 LK The Hague exhibitions.europeana.eu/exhibits/show/europeana-1914-1918-en Part of a larger project titled Europeana 1914-1918, this online exhibit tells a story about the other side of the war, the story of soldiers and families who were affected by the war; this exhibit tells a story that all belligerent nations shared and had in common. This story is told through a digital representation of artifacts, oral histories, and archives (documents and photographs). The website is quite effective in providing a glimpse on non-commonly discussed aspects of the war; the web exhibit is design to browse between the various stories gathered under six major themes (The Unexpected, Family Stories, People in Documents, News from the Front, A Soldiers Kit, and Propaganda). Sober in format and color, this exhibit focus on it educational purpose for a diverse audience, from school children to academic researchers. The website is easy to navigate despite a lack of static main menu. Despite its friendliness on different platforms (PC, MAC, IOS, and Android), some difficulties on Android phone were encountered preventing the visitor to enjoy the exhibit at all. This exhibit is definitively focuses on sharing on the World Wide Web a few forgotten stories on World War I. This exhibit seems to have been created to show the efforts of European historians to gather stories, artifacts, and archives that are not held by institutionalized organization, but rather still in the hands of private citizens throughout Europe. The information provided in this digital exhibition is relevant to World War I, with accurate story telling methods and language. Each digital representation of artifacts and archives contains an annotation page, which provided the visitor with a detailed information. My general impression of this web exhibition is positive despite few issues.
