Untold good story of Barkly West lions #History It was the time when Advice and Development Centre was still playing a meaningful role in a Municipality. It was just after Vaalbos Resolution to amalgamate Small Local Municipalities (Transitional Local Council) wherein 3 Town (Windsorton, Delportshoop and Barkly West plus all surrounding Farms) were to be a one big Municipality. A task was given to Barkly West Advice and Development Centre (under the Leadership of Mr Douks Olifant -May His Soul Rest in Peace) to get a neutral name that will be suitable plus inclusive to all Towns. Credit goes to all those played this intergral part in that Advice Office (Douks Olifant, Dick Banda, Ngy Berend, Puleng Molefi, Kealeboga Sehako, Oumakie Sekwera, Mosalashuping Keetsamang, Kagisho Makoloi, Edward Tampies Moshweu). In the year 2000, delegation (Kagisho Makoloi, Oumakie Sekwera and Kealeboga Sehako) were send to Cape Town (Parliament of RSA) to go and design a loggo and choose a Name for the Municipality. We presented 3 names (Thusanang, Kopanang or Dikgatlong), we had to put it in wording which must be translated into a Loggo. We then resolved that the Name: Dikgatlong Municipality is the right name for our Municipality, which the then Councillors and the then Mayor: Epang Matolweni adopted and approved Defining Dikgatlong Municipality and what is in the Loggo 1. Two Rivers passing in all 3 Towns (Vaal River and Harts River) both Rivers meeting behind Delportshoop at a spot called Dikgatlong 2. Since all Towns has Mining areas, a drawing for mining tools and a Diamond to be reflected on the Loggo, because majority were Mining Diamonds 3. We also included Agricultural Activities and livestock for small Farmers and Wildeklawer in the Loggo 4. We included a Big Tree which was apparently used to hang people in the past (which was situated between Gong-Gong and Longlands) 5. We then included a Motto and called it Kopano Ke Maatla which V3 Kwezi changed to Kopano Le Maatla (replacing Ke by Le). Upon our return from Cape Town, Douks Olifant and Kagisho Makoloi made a presentation to the then Municipal Manager: Johannes Eilerd who took the design to V3 Kwezi for finalisation and approval. Today we have a Municipality called Dikgatlong Municipality with a clear Loggo and Motto called Kopano Ke Maatla a History never told before. Respect and credit goes to Barkly West Advice and Development Centre. This is one of my past Social Involvement at my Home Town, my Brief Political Involvement and Background will follow soon; when time is right. People undermines each other without knowing each others background, we are divided for no good reason; we are sidelining each other without clear agenda. We have a rich History in Our Municipality, we cant be in crisis for Leadership (The likes of Pele Kale, Koos Gopolang, Matlhomola Chupologo, Mmolayeng Booysen, Martin White, Kaizer Lenkoe, Wedede Kgosi, the list is endless including those in Windsorton, Delportshoop and surrounding Farms.
