Unusual Laryngeal Mass This patient was suffering from choked breathing, breathlessness & hoarseness of voice. He was admitted to another hospital in Mumbai city.Firstly to save the patients life, the doctors in that hospital did a Tracheostomy [A tracheostomy is a surgical procedure to create an opening through the neck into the trachea (windpipe) to ensure breathing through this hole] to save his life. So this hole would help him breathe. Further investigation revealed a mass in larynx (throat). Couple of biopsy did not reveal the nature of tumour. This patient was living with the hole in his neck and breathing through it. He could not talk. The patient was got to Kohinoor Hospital. Dr. Sanjay Helale & Dr. Rakesh Badhe decided to induce anesthesia through the hole which was already made in the patients neck at the earlier hospital. Oxygen was given through the same hole. With laser the tumour was removed from the mouth. The tumour was sent to the frozen section (biopsy report is given in 15 minutes at this section. Ideally for a biopsy report the patient has to wait for 7 days.) While keeping the patient on anesthesia, the report was received by Dr. Sanjay Helale & Dr. Rakesh Badhe. The report determined that the tumour was TB (tuberculosis). The entire tumour was removed and the hole in the neck was closed. This entire procedure was done in one session. The patient can now talk, eat & swallow normally. The patient was discharged the second day.
