Unusually high incidence of Tiger Scrape Marks By Milind - TopicsExpress

Unusually high incidence of Tiger Scrape Marks By Milind Pariwakam, WCT Atul Tikhe, Sheetal Navgire and I witnessed an interesting piece of natural history while carrying out the Phase III Camera Trapping exercise for the Pench Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra. We had scaled the precincts of the old Ghuggusgarh fort on the western bank of the Pench river through a narrow forest trail to explore the possibility of planting a camera trap. The fort, situated on a flat hill top, is characterised by dilapidated boundary walls. While searching the insides of the fort we came across a phenomenally high number of scrape marks of tigers. To be precise we counted 23 scrape marks in a 500 meter stretch. Of these, 20 were in a section measuring just 200 meters! For obvious reasons we decided to set up a camera trap in this location and expect to gather some vital photographic data on the tigers of the Ghuggusgarh Fort. (Photo: Anish Andheria/WCT)
