Update from Clark County Humane Society: We want to take a moment - TopicsExpress

Update from Clark County Humane Society: We want to take a moment to let everyone know that the owner of the elderly Elkhound that we posted yesterday was found. The woman was informed by a neighbor that saw the posting on Facebook. She stopped in to pick Abby up today. It was a bittersweet reunion. Abby was happy to see her mom, and as weak as she was, she wagged her little tail. We discovered that the dog was 18 years old and had been a part of her family for 14 of those years. There is no doubt she was loved very much. We confirmed that Abby had a large tumor pressing on her trachea and lungs making breathing very difficult, was deaf, had lost a vast amount of her body-weight and could no longer stand. She was in the final stages of a terminal illness. The woman made the sad decision to have a veterinarian euthanize her dog. It was a tearful day for her, and all of us here, but everyone agreed it was the kindest thing to do for Abby. We are very grateful for all of the help each of you gave in sharing the facebook posting, the kind words expressed, the outpouring of offers to help with medical expenses. That level of caring renews our faith in the good nature of the majority of people. We were able to keep Abby pain-free, comfortable, warm and loved while she waited to be found by her owner. We wish there was a gloriously happy ending to this story to report to all of you. As you know, life doesn’t always work that way. What we do know is that the owner and her dog got to see each other again and a lot of kind and caring people united in an effort to help a dog in need. Abby is free from her suffering tonight and has moved on to that special place where all wonderful animals go to when they leave us. Thank you to everyone who helped her.
