Update on Abby Dear Karen, Abby is just a little love. She adores my granddaughter Jackie, 17 and can hear her car a mile away. She stands looking out the storm door making little whimper sounds (not I need to go potty sound)and I know Jackie is dropping by. She loves Abby just as much and will coo and pet her endlessly. Abby is extremely intelligent and already has learned hand signals and down/stay. She refuses to come when I call Abby! Come!. But I found out that if I say Abby! Chicken bites! she comes running. It sounds so silly, but it works. Shes a little bully with Max, my 100 lb Golden! Its so funny and Max, like a true Golden, just looks at her , yawns and lets her have whatever she wants. Abby pushed it one day by getting up on my bed and laying in Maxs place. He stood there for a bit and then she barked at him. He bopped her one with his huge paws, she yelped and jumped to the other side. Max promptly got up and laid down on his place! Abby has never laid in his spot since. LOL. She watches whatever Max does and the people he likes and kind of uses him as a guideline. But the best is that while still a bit timid, as long as Im there or Max is happy to see them, she allows people to pet her and doesnt run away. Shes learning to trust again. I have the Invisable Fence and Abby learned her boundries within about three days. Wow! I keep the guard on her collar, so all she gets is the beeping sound. That beep is enough for her as she hates it. When Max strays near the edge and gets beeped, she barks at him until he gets back. Then she goes back to following me everywhere and all the while doing a little grumble/growl for a couple of minutes. Its as if shes saying How many times do I have to tell you I hate that beeping sound?. She is such a pleasure to have around. I think that because Im here most of the time, it helped her acclimate much quicker to her new home. She continues to try and show Max that everything is now hers, including me, the house, all toys & bones and the entire yard. Max just yawns and seems to say Yeah. Right. Whatever. Just let me know if Mom is getting a cookie for me....er...us!. Obviously weve all fallen in love with her! She loves her walks anywhere and especially likes the woods that start about 300 yards from us. Yesterday it was a dead baby possum (yuck!) and a squirrels nest that had fallen. She was in heaven! I think she has a little, tiny, built in alarm clock. She wakes me at the same time each morning within 5 minutes. Shes fed twice a day and knows exactly what time dinner is! If I happen to be gone and get home a couple of hours late...she is at my heels scolding me with funny little growls. She wants those chicken bites. How I wish I was able to send a note and pictures to her former owner. Her foster mom Melinda believes that her owner had to go into assisted living and the family didnt want Abbey. Id like her/him to know that shes in a good, happy home and is loved.
