Update on Caelan: Hes doing better. He is, as the doctor says, taking a slow turn towards getting better. He has made improvements in his lung function and is off the oscillator, and back onto the ventilator. His oxygen was down to 41% yesterday, but after speaking with them this morning they have played around with it and lowered it some more and just seeing how hes doing with it. Last night the doctor said his lungs are still a little stiff, and they need to have pressure up a little to help them open all the way on the inhale. It sounds like he has gotten a little better with that over night. Theyve also lowered his blood pressure medication today and are seeing how hell do with that. There was also no bacteria found, so that is always good, its just the rhinovirus, which is a common cold. I did a little research on the virus and its very similar to RSV, and studies have shown that infants and children have been hospitalized longer with the rhinovirus compared to infants and children that had RSV. Since hes been taken off oscillation and put back on ventilation they no longer have him paralyzed, so hes been able to move a bit and has been opening his eyes and looking around. Theyve also been checking his heart and have said there is nothing wrong with it and that it is actually quite strong for his age. So hes beginning to get better, hes just taking his time with it. As Chris said, I think hes enjoying his heated bed and room service a little too much lol. Were all happy to hear hes getting better and Chris and I were able to actually go to sleep a lot better last night.
