Update on Della for my friends and family: Shes eaten two meals. She still has barely any voice...but speaks fine in whispers. She has every tube and wire gone except one I.V. She is too weak to walk but she has been up in a chair sitting several times. She cannot remember the last four days which is a good thing because she was in very bad shape. She is shocked at her extreme weakness. But shes getting stronger. Today she will be moved from ICU to another room. Naturally shes unhappy being in the hospital and not being able to do simple things for herself without it being a big ordeal, but she doesnt know how it was for four days...on Monday she was the most critically ill patient in the entire hospital. Not a thing you want fame for. As for me: this is my happiest day. Im ecstatic every time I see her swallow, drink, eat, stand...and breathe! I just love being here and able to talk to her again. I hope Im not wearing her out. Shes not yet ready for her phone or computer, but she will be tomorrow or the next day, no doubt. I bring them in every day.
