Update on Kissers condition: He is doing much better this morning. - TopicsExpress

Update on Kissers condition: He is doing much better this morning. After a rectal exam, tubing, numerous sedations and 20 liters of IV fluids, he made it. It wasnt looking very good for a while. We decided to let him remain laying down as long as he wasnt thrashing or rolling. He expelled a lot of gas during those rest periods and eventually we could hear gut sounds as they were so loud. He had bowel movements at 6:30am and 8:45am after his walks. I will be heading back to the barn shortly. Thank you for all the prayers and concerns. It looks like it was a gas and impaction colic. Much to his chagrin, he will get another rectal exam since the manure was very hard and very dry. He was his usual chatty self when I left and was not thrilled that I didnt get him grain (which he wont get for a while) or grass (which he will get very soon in 10 minute intervals). A big THANK YOU to the best equine vet on the planet - Nancylee Bielawski. She stayed until 4:45am once he was looking and feeling better. And thank you to Lizanne Quinn for all her help, too. This was not fun and I dont want to experience this again.
