Update on Liberty. The Open Call was full of designers/makers/artists. We all had to queue outside to wait our turn. I got there to be one of the last in the queue (deliberate...ish) It took about 1 hour and half for me to get to see them. This seemed a good plan to arrive late as the lady waiting upstairs had been there all day because the queues were huge! I met some cool designers in the queue and one lady had a chair that was something that I wanted to run away with, but it was far too heavy. There was designers/makers offering handmade traditional teddy bears, embroidery sets, oodles of beautiful cushions... allsorts of unexpected items! I wouldnt really put my surface design in with trad Liberty but felt I had to go anyway, its always good to meet up with these buyers on offer once a year as they can offer lots of valuble advice either way. They are highly experienced and thats always worth a trip! Anyhows...my turn came I took a suitcase with me, they make you unpack it before you get to see the buyers (VERY ODD...coz carrying it to right across the room and to the table & without circus training this is kinda difficult!) They sit poker faced whilst you garbel on about your inspiration, wholesale pricing, supply and demand... blah blah. I discussed my inspiration & pricing with them and they seemed to be interested in one collection and asked if I supply to anyone else... then I said No but I was taking it to Top Drawer Trade show and then their faces dropped. I then said I hope Ikea are there (my heros) OOOOOPSSSSS! Hmmmm thats when I imagined the anvil dropping on my head! The ending...they gave me some very good feedback on my collections ready for Top Drawer London that advice was very good, and they really liked one collection in particular I kind of already knew that I should expand on one design mainly as a brand... but it had been lost in the muddled n busy braincells someplace. Im onto it all now with a fresh re organised thinking...! : ) x PS there was filming there by Channel 4. Watch this space its on soon. They asked me How did I feel being last in the Queue? I replied Late lol
