Update on Mum - why is it I feel like the boy who called wolf in a way?? Meeting with my Mums consultant yesterday morning. Last Wednesday his registrar gave my Mum a thorough examination and decided she was going downhill rapidly and continuing with I.V. antibiotics and rehydrating her was just prolonging her agony, we agreed to no further interventions, no more oxygen therapy, we could visit her any time and since then we have kept a bedside vigil to help keep her comfortable and out of pain and let her drift away......... - unfortunately nobody told my Mum about the last bit and some six days later of nil by anything she has decided her time is not here yet, her chest infection has all but recovered, she is cognitive hungry and thirsty. The consultant has now started her back on food and drink, certain meds, normal visiting restrictions and aim at getting her back to her care home. I suppose that means they got it slightly wrong and didnt expect an old dear with dementia to fight on.
