Update on Stryker my 20 month old Doberman boy. Surgery was performed Thursday afternoon at Canada West Veterinary Specialists & Critical Care Hospital in Vancouver to repair a complete tear of the cranial cruciate ligament and small tear of the medial meniscus. TPLO plate was used with locking screws. Looks like first picture. Stryker and I arrived home yesterday afternoon and we have 90 days minimum of recover. 1st month 5 min leash walks 4-5 times daily otherwise confinment in his cage. 2nd month 10 min leash walks 3 times daily otherwise confinment in his cage. 3rd month providing x-rays show good bone healing, longer leash walks may begin, increasing to unlimited by month end. 4th month gradual intro to off leash activity, no rough play with other dogs Because he has had Kidney failure in the past it is critical he be allowed out to urinate every couple of hours plus of course for the first couple of weeks he has a long lists of medications & supplies including a sling to support him while he is walking. He has a nice cage set up near the wood stove where he can see me most of the time and thanks to Joey McKay I have a wire kennel next to my office area with a pillow in it so he can lay next to me while I am working. Thank you to my friends that have been enquiring about Stryker and I - we are doing as good as can be expected. My social schedule will come to a grinding halt for these few months but when he makes a full rocovery it will be all worth it! Keir will be home for a few weeks over Christmas and he will be helping with Stryker care then. In the mean time Raya is enjoying her one on one time with mommy and she lays outside Strykers cage to keep him company!
