Update on my Dad: THURS: Some encouraging things that are happening. He has come off almost all pain meds and had some IVs taken out. The only thing hes getting is a little bit of fluid and his nutrients. His stomach is processing the nutrients quite well. Some not so encouraging news is he still heavily relying on the respirator and they have started considering a trach but doc said not til after the weekend. Doc is still very encouraged by his progress. He said that ten years ago a trach was a big deal but now days its nothing to worry about. He is responding to the doc and did let the nurses know last night that he needed a dose of pain meds. They are slowing down the feeding so his stomach does not expand into the operation location. However, he is processing the food, just not at a fast enough rate to support the amount they are giving him. FRI: He had no pain meds last night at all. No ativan either because if he became agitated the nurse has been able to get him to calm down pretty easily. His temp did spike up to 101 and they think there is infection somewhere...likely the lungs because of the respirator,.... But it may take a couple of days to get results of cultures to know for sure. Temp has already come down a little. They have him on antibiotics and believes it is from the lungs. Doc gave the direction for them to try getting him off the breathing machine because he needs to begin breathing on his on. The dr also said that he is right where they expected him to be at this point. Please pray specifically for his lungs to improve and for the infection wherever it is to go away. He has responded to my brother Chris when he was with him and the nurses too so thats progress!
