Update on my housing situation: I have been on disability for since 2011 due to battling symptoms of fribromyalgia and lupus since 2003. Ive had housing assistance provided by a HUD disability housing voucher via Volunteers of America. I received a call this past week stating that they had some new policies implement which includes that they are to be the only signers on all leases and we pay VOA directly for our portion of the rent. Because the managing company of the location where I rent disagreed with their policy and considered it unethical for them to be on the lease with any renter because it would mean they could cancel the tenants lease anytime they wanted to. Because they disagreed with this policy, VOA called to let me know that the would not be paying Septembers rent and I had to move by the first. Update: Ive begun to make calls to all of my local, state, and federal representatives and to legal counsel. I was able to get through to the office of a state representative. His aid immediately return my call. They said they will present this situation before the state senator first thing in the morning. However, what was stated to me is that this case is a federal issue. I will be contacting our federal congressman, senator as well as our governors office. Many families (I am aware of five surrounding cities) disabled individuals, and elderly are being forced to make a move to a new location within 10 days (now extended by ten more days to me; mid Sept) without moving expenses nor assistance offered. This agency because they made a policy to be the only signers on all leases also say that the final decision for the new living location is up to them as it has to be a location that agrees with their policy. Some of these individuals are elderly and have no families and/ or very little help from family members, nor the finances to cover a move in such a short time frame; not to mention that this scenario that is very fascist in nature is causing physical, mental and emotional stress for them (those who are not inside the Peace of Christ). They are NOT being given a choice of where they desire to live. My 65 year old neighbor is one of these individuals. She is not being given an option for where she desires to live. She has been distraught and overwhelmed. She is physically unable to pack and move much less in this short of a time frame. Ive been on the phone with her everyday encouraging her and releasing THE SHALOM of JESUS. This agency, VOA (Volunteers of America) has made a policy on how they want to use federal monies for the disabled in a manner that is unrighteous. Please keep us in prayer as it looks as though God is placing me a role to be a voice and advocate for these families, disabled individuals and the elderly.....and homeless in our area. Please pray also for the harvest workers to arise in the Name of JESUS. Pray for the churches to arise to help these individuals. Pray for the Gideons to Arise. Pray for the Deborahs to Arise.
